Coach Sharp Had Only One Rule

My high school’s baseball coach was inducted into the Arizona Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame last month. Nobody ever deserved it more. Coach Sharp is a fine, Christian gentleman and a world-class educator. He’s retired now and lives in Arkansas, but he can remember 27 years worth of students—by their first names. His wife does, too. Coach Sharp taught PE and Drivers’ Ed; coached baseball and football and was involved in all the sports programs at Douglas High School.

We've recently begun exchanging e-mail. I promise you—that's a big deal for me! I say proudly that I loved Coach Sharp; still do. Almost every student who ever passed within his shadow will say the same thing.

He was most interested in us as students; he was determined that…well, read about him in a true story I wrote.

Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve before kings, not before obscure men.—Proverbs 22:29
