81 to 100
81. At her wedding, I escorted my (soon-to-be) daughter-in-law to the altar and gave her to my son. No, the wedding was not in Arkansas.
82. My son is a commercial airline pilot. My daughter-in-law is a doctor.
83. Roasted lamb is delicious. It tastes just like roasted lamb. A good lamb dinner with mint jelly—and ice cream afterwards—is one reason I should be more physically active.
84. A regret: No hablo espaƱol tan bueno como quisiera. (I think that's right.) Sometimes it's embarrassing.
85. Jobs I don't want: carrying roofing shingles up ladders and carrying sheetrock up stairs.
86. A job I don't ever want again: carrying cinder blocks up scaffolding.
87. About our high school alma mater: I introduced it to our student body. That is, I sang it first to an all-school assembly.
88. A couple of years ago, our son was a contestant on Jeopardy.
89. The perfect job: teaching school—with an agent who negotiates a superstar salary and an ideal working environment—to students who are interested in your subject. (Seems like it, anyway.)
90. The dream job: writing about my discoveries in ancient history and archeology.
91. I'm "tri-lingual." English, Spanish, American Sign Language. Well, I'm learning, anyway.
92. Our oldest daughter is an excellent signer and frequently interprets for the Deaf.
93. Our oldest daughter’s 6th grade son was recently selected to go to Washington DC with a group of 200 other smart American kids. That would be my grandson. And he’s a smart one, I tell you.
94. Mt. St. Helens was only twenty-two miles away when it erupted. It was a cloudy Sunday morning so I didn't see the actual eruption. I saw the lighting flashes it caused, and that afternoon I watched unending ash sail east.
95. I have a collection of memorable newspapers (90-something) dating back to Martin Luther King's assassination. I lost the first ones I ever had—the to-do about President Kennedy, who died one week after I got married.
96. Other newspapers include the First Man on the Moon, Hank Aaron's 715th home run, the deaths of several famous people, war and the end of it, Presidential elections, 9/11, some special sports moments, spaceship explosions, natural catastrophes like Mt. St. Helens, the tsunami and Katrina's horror; that sort of stuff. Each paper is in an acid-free plastic bag.
97. I was acutely aware of all the angels surrounding my mother's deathbed. Everyone should experience such peace.
98. One of my plays is about Hosea, the Old Testament prophet who married a prostitute. One of my plays is about Rahab, history's most famous hooker.
99. Family. Friends. Food. Fellowship. Fun. Chocolate.
100. Admiring a pretty sunset is one of life's special moments.
“The future is as bright as the promises of God.”—My best friend, Pastor Bob Hilderman, missionary on the Navajo Indian Reservation, Window Rock, Arizona.
