I’ve been invited to lead a Bible study for a Chinese family who are relatively new Christians. This is exciting—for me.
We’re going to begin with Joseph. You know, the second to youngest son of Jacob (who was renamed Israel). You know, the boy with the cool “multi-colored” coat. His great-grandfather was Abraham.
Here are two interesting things about Joseph that you may (or may not) already know:
- He is the first person in the Bible to be called a Hebrew—by
HillaryMrs. Potiphar, of all people. (How did she know he was Jewish?) - He was the ruler of Egypt for 70 years—second in command only to King Pharaoh(s)—and is the man who gave most of the orders concerning the country.
After we finish the Bible study, we're going to rent the smash Broadway hit, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. I love that play and I love its title. I may (or may not) post our Bible class discoveries. We’ll see.
Another Joseph. Jesus’ earthly father, Joseph, was in line to become the next King of Israel. Think about it. But, sadly, this righteous man had to die so that his first-born son, Jesus, would be the King. And as God’s Plan would have it, Jesus became the King of Kings—and still is. Cool, huh?
And get this: Jesus' earthly father, Joseph, was the son of (another) Jacob. Two Jacobs. Two Josephs. Is that cool, too?
