I posted this short story last January. Please read it again.
Now then, I have often said that those people in heaven whose crowns will be the brightest are those quiet, faithful servers who, without fanfare or spotlights, care for the infants; who greet us at the doors; who play the organ—week after week, year after year.
Today our beautiful and talented church organist, the delightful woman featured in the story above, played her last chord in our church. After 34 years of exquisite music in services, weddings and funerals, she’s going in a new direction. The congregation gave her an extended and loving ovation.
I can’t count the blessings I received from Delores. Her very presence was an assurance that all is well. My First Wife and I—and many others—will miss her. And when I get to heaven, I’m going to ask if she can play for us a few times.
Heaven will rock!
