Adventures in Charm

I'm almost afraid to admit this, but as Paul Harvey used to say, “And now—the whole story.”

I fixed a pork tenderloin dinner last night and roasted that dead pig in my expensive double-lined Wilmot “meatloaf” pan. I love that pan set and really try to take care of it. Well, wouldn’t you know it? I made an exceptionally delicious blackberry jam marinade (does anyone hear ‘sugar’?) and all that sweetness roasted itself into a thick, thick tar all over both parts of my expensive double-lined Wilmot “meatloaf” pan.

Well, all our kitchen cleaners and scratch-proof utensils were no match for the sugar imps that built up that deep, rich, black patina of scorched jam. I scrubbed, I rubbed, I soaked, I waited, I chipped, I dug. I got frustrated, but kept my temper well under control. It’s a good thing, too, because suddenly—*Ding!*—another of my brilliant strokes of genius. Try WD-40.

Worked like a charm.

And dinner was delicious, by the way. You can get the recipe from the October issue of Better Homes and Gardens. Try it. Hint: roast your dead pig in a cheap aluminum pan and throw the thing away when you’re done.

Disclaimer: I sure hope no one says I used the wrong product because... really, it was a great idea and it worked like a charm.

That's a new one to me. I hope you rinsed it well.

I just loved Paul Harvey's comments.

Another use for WD-40... next to duct tape, one of the most useful items ever made. Just make sure to wash well with hot sudsy soapy water and rinse, rinse, rinse. Have you ever heard it called "skeeter pee"?

I love WD 40.

It makes sense Paul, but I've never tried it on a pan.
I guess I need to go burn something.

I'm glad you thought of it, since I never would have!!

I roast my pork tenderloin in glass dishes. I spray them first with Pam, so nothing sticks.

WD-40 huh? Glad to see you are feeling well enough to cook, and do the dishes!

Ha! Next time get "la caja China!" lol

Love your story, Paul, and btw, I mentioned you on my post tonight. :)

I love WD-40, as it is good stuff, but would not have thought about it in regards to this! Now I know!! Thanks!

Wish you would have discovered this about a year ago. I'll remember it for next time - and there will be a next time.

I love dead pig. Hey, thanks for the good idea. Stan "taught" Luke how to "cook" French toast about a year ago and my beautiful skillet was black for months and months. Still has some blackness on it, so I'll try WD-40. I think kenju is on to something.

If it's supposed to move and doesn't: WD-40. If it's not supposed to move and does: Duct Tape.
