My First Wife and I went to hear our grandson sing in the Heart of America Talent Contest yesterday afternoon. In about a week, we'll post a video of his performance. We are proud grandparents!
Thirty-eight kids competed in three divisions: Under 12; 13 Thru College; and an "Open" division for more advanced voice students regardless of age. Mike competed in the Open division.
Lemme tell you, there are some really talented vocalists here in the Heart of America. The cutest little seven-year-old in a pink dress won the Under 12 bracket. When I had an opportunity to congratulate her, she yelled at me, "They gave me a hundred dollar bill!" She got a trophy, too. She was cute as all get out.
Eighteen spectacular students sang in the Open division, including our Mike. I'm sure they dizzied the judges! Those kids were good—as in outstanding! It was a world-class concert!
Our grandson, still only 15-years-old, sang "Cry Me a River," rocked the house and took home second place! Mike is aptly named: Mike, and he knows what to do with one. We are proud grandparents! He won a cool trophy and $150 gift certificate from the Guitar Center. Pretty good, huh?
The first place winner is a 22-year-old college student with a well-developed voice who wrote his own song. (We don't agree with the judges, but the young man was good.) He got a trophy, too, whole lotta other stuff and gets to sing two nights at Mickey Gilley's place in Branson, Missouri.

It was a great afternoon and, once again, we got to be proud of a buncha kids. You shoulda been there.
Remember, hurry back! We're gonna post Mike's video as soon as we get it from the producer.

Sally...well, it's the WF!
Isn't it wonderful to have grandchildren who are far above average.
That's wonderful! Congrats all around!
Didn't you know it is a prerequisite for grandparenthood? You are required to be proud. But by the looks of it, you have reason to be!
Your grandson must be a fan of Spongebob Squarepants. On Twitter today, he said, "If a microphone suddenly drops out of the sky, SING!" Congrats to your Mike! Don't forget to post that video. Yeah, as if. :)
Oh Paul, that is fabulous! I'm sure you watch in awe of the talent that he possesses. I look forward to seeing the video. Holler when you have it posted!
