Adventures with Casino Chips

This post is especially for Word Whiz, Tom, Hoss and the other bloggers who went to Las Vegas a couple of months ago. Or for anyone who's ever been to Las Vegas.

I’ll bet (get it?) you didn’t know that in Las Vegas there are more Catholic churches than there are casinos. I know it’s hard to believe, but…

Not surprisingly, at Sunday Mass many worshippers give casino chips rather than cash when the basket is passed.

Since they get chips from so many casinos, the churches have devised a method to sort the offerings. All the collected chips are sent to a nearby Franciscan Monastery for sorting. Then the chips are returned to the casinos of origin and cashed in.

This important spiritual service is performed by the chip monks.
