Civil Engineering Department

Bubba and Ray are our local civil engineers here in Pancake Flats. I don’t think either one of them has a flag that goes all the way up. Well, the other day the silly goofs were standing knee deep in snow at the base of a flagpole, looking up.

My First Wife was out paying bills shopping that frigid day and happened to see those boys just standing there looking up. At first she thought they might be peeing in public, but after awhile decided that was not the case. So she worked up enough nerve to go ask ‘em what they were looking at.

“Well, hey there, Miz Nichols,” Bubba said. “
We're supposed to find out the height of this here flagpole, but we don't have a ladder."

My First Wife just rolled her eyes, walked back to the car and found a wrench and a tape measure in the trunk. She trudged back through the snow, loosened a few bolts and laid the pole down. Then she took a measurement and announced, "Eighteen feet, six inches," and walked away.

That Ray. He
shook his head and laughed. "Ain't that just like a woman!’ he laughed. “We ask for the height and she gives us the length!"
