Challenges Department

Scarlet has an interesting challenge over on her blog. All about that Random Act of Kindness. There are several interesting responses in her Comments, too.

Well, I got to thinking about it while I was out walking this evening (five miles, thank you very much!). Wouldn’t you know it: out in the street, along the trail, on the sidewalks, in the parks were all kinds of huge plastic beverage cups, little ones, too; plastic water bottles; aluminum beverage cans; beer cans and bottles; and endless ripped paper wrappers. Sure was ugly.

At my half-way point, I stopped in the convenience store for a plastic bottle of water. “Wait,” I thought to myself. “Get a bag.” So the clerk gave me two plastic grocery bags. I took off again to perform a Random Act of Kindness. I filled both bags with a menacing hodge-podge of all the above junk. I’m sorry, but I just couldn’t get it all. I put it all in a litter barrel.

So, I thought to myself, “We should declare a war on litter.” Get bumper stickers, window decals, magnetic ribbons. Please join in this war. Litter is really getting out of hand.

So my first challenge is to ask you to do the same thing. Just one time. Walk through your nearest park, trail or neighborhood and help clean it up a little. It doesn't hurt.

My other challenge is to ask all my faithful readers to do something nice for somebody you don’t know. You know, a Random Act of Kindness. Thanks for the reminder, Scarlet.
