Color, Color, Color

My First Wife and I have taken to lilies the past few years.

The dazzling Asian pink lily had over 30 bulbs on it, still some haven't blossomed yet.The golden Day Lilies in the corner are protecting some beautiful purple Prairie Tall Grass. It's hard to see here, but in the fall that grass will be higher than the fence. It gets real thick and pretty. And if you look real hard under the lilies, you can see some mum leaves. (Click pics to enlargenate.) They're waiting till September to burst forth with gallons of thick Yellow mums. They'll be awesome. Stop by, why don't cha.

This little orange Asian lily is new to our patio this year. Notice how many of its flowers are still to bloom. We're expecting big things in the years to come.

Oh, and if you like the color green, this is Indian Creek. It's a treasure here in The Big City. I waded out into it to take this photo. After a few days of nice rains, you cannot see those dry stones on the right. And as quiet and peaceful as this green dream looks, the noisiest freeway in the Heart of America is only a hundred feet to my left. Bleeve me, it's noisy!

Why don't you come visit?

I'd like nothing better than to be hopping rock in that creek. It's one of my very favorite things to do ever. The lilies are beauteous! Is that a word?!

Is arlypho a word???

I spent my childhood in creeks like that and I'd love to have one near me now.

John Wayne is charging down the middle of that creek riding Banner and the bad guy riding toward him is doomed to be killed and to fall into the stream with his foot hung up in the stirrup and dragged across the sharp rocks:)

Beautiful! And I would love to visit. But you live a little far from here to just stop in for a cup of coffee.

But I really enjoy your pictures.

I think I just got two more of the orange lilies. Here they called them dwarf, although the others (pink and dark burgundy) I planted three years ago now, have grown quite tall for what I would consider dwarf. They multiply a bit, but not as much as the first year. Perhaps I should divide them.

I dug up five plastic tubs of iris from the old house and only planted one. The others have been sitting out in the heat, rain, wind, snow... etc. For three years they have been sitting with no soil and only collected rain water. The plastic tubs have fallen apart around them. So I finally got out with the ticks and the wild bamboo and cleaned the edge of the preserve up and tilled it up and dug it up and pulled and cut and put down topsoil and compost and started planting those iris. I planted over 75. I know I didn't bring that many. They kept dividing and dividing and wouldn't die, although after planting them, I thought I might. They better bloom next May.
