Favorite Aromas

I had an interesting experience this morning; a cause for pause.

Went into the hardware store for something. On the way home with my purchase, I still detected the distinct smell of that store. Ever notice that hardware stores all have the same pleasant aroma? Well, I paused…

It dawned on me that there are a number of aromas, smells, odors that I really like. I tried to think of as many as possible for the list below. They are in no particular order, or “favorite.”
  • Bacon frying. (I think this is everybody’s favorite.)
  • Leather, hanging in a tack store.
  • Inside an abandoned barn. I don’t care how dusty, it still smells so wholesome and earthy.
  • Fried chicken.
  • Baking bread, cakes, cinnamon rolls, etc.
  • Latex paint immediately after I open the can.
  • Brewing coffee.
  • Merlot.
  • Inside a tortilla factory.
  • A Christmas tree lot.
  • New Car Interiors.
  • Fresh sawn lumber; the expensiver, the better.
  • Most Italian food.
  • The ocean, from about 1/4 a mile away.
  • Hardware stores.
  • Dirt, after a desert rain…

There are more, I’m sure.

So. What are five (5) of your favorite aromas? Some can be the same as mine. It's okay.

Coffee brewing in the morning when I don't expect it.
Gardenias on the bush in my garden.
Purple basil flowers that I picked and my hand afterwards.
My first Cabbage Patch Doll, back when they infused the sweet smell of baby powder in the plastic used to form the head.
The sweet baby smell of my newborn daughter... I sort of remember that one since it was almost 25 years ago now.

I love the Jersey marsh.
I love to open a fresh book and breath in. Not every one is delicious though.
I love Light Blue by Dolce & Gabana
I love the smell of the old mimeograph machines that left the paper slightly wet and cool.
I like some different things like gasoline at the station, a cigarette just lit, the molassesy smell of my old goat's feed...

I think those you named are all my favorites, but I don't know about rain in the desert dirt.

Topping it all? The way a baby smells, and coffee brewing!

Ah yes, love it. Also, I'd like to say I don't love the smell of the mimeograph machine but the paper after passing through it. I hate it when I don't explain things write...right.

Oh, Holland reminded me. I LOVE rubbing my hands on my rosemary bush and inhaling. That is the best.

Fried bacon (yeah that tops the list)
Spring Rain
Dirt in the garden and flower beds
Beef and noodles in the oven
Fresh cut hay

I could go on but you said five.

coffee in the morning
bacon frying in the pan
fresh spring flowers
after the rain
frying onions and mushrooms
And if I were to write the list tomorrow, I'm sure it would be a bit different - but definitely the coffee
